What is Legionella?

Legionella is a type of bacteria found naturally in freshwater, like lakes and streams, but when inhaled can cause a serious form of pneumonia known as Legionnaires’ disease. A Legionella Risk Assessment is carried out to ensure that Legionella is not present in any human-made water systems like sink faucets or shower units.

Why is Legionella Testing important?

The importance of under going a risk assessment is very high, testing can identify the growth of Legionella in hot and cold water systems and prevent cases of dangerous legionnaires’ disease. Identifying and reporting cases as soon as possible, is important in controlling a Legionella outbreak in your water supply. The severity of the situation can vary, but Legionella water sampling can be the difference between a life or death scenario.
